چکیده

www.thoracic.org C LI P A N D C O P Y What is Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB)? SDB is a general term used to describe various different abnormalities in breathing pattern which occur during sleep, including obstructive and central sleep apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common disorder which affects roughly 10% of the US population and approximately 1/3 of people with congestive heart failure. OSA patients have reductions or stoppages in airflow despite ongoing respiratory efforts. In contrast, central sleep apnea (CSA) patients have reductions or stoppages in airflow without respiratory effort. Cheyne Stokes respirations (CSR) is a special form of CSA which is seen in roughly 1/3 people with congestive heart failure. OSA and CSA sometime occur in the same individuals either at different times of the night or from one night to the next. Thus, the term SDB is used to refer to both OSA and CSA together since the distinction is sometimes hard to make.

Sleep-related Breathing Disorders Adaptive Servo-Ventilation

Adaptive servo-ventilation (ASV) is a form of non-invasive positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy that differs from other PAP devices. It includes features to overcome both obstructive and central sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) events. In the Treatment of Sleep-Disordered Breathing with Predominant Central Sleep Apnea by Adaptive Servo-Ventilation in Patients with Heart Failure (SERVE-HF) stu...

Adaptive servo-ventilation: How does it fit into the treatment of central sleep apnoea syndrome? Expert opinions.

The preliminary results of the SERVE-HF study have led to the release of safety information with subsequent contraindication to the use of adaptive servo-ventilation (ASV) for the treatment of central sleep apnoeas in patients with chronic symptomatic systolic heart failure with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≤ 45%. The aim of this article is to review these results, and to provide m...

Optimization of pressure settings during adaptive servo-ventilation support using real-time heart rate variability assessment: initial case report

BACKGROUND Adaptive servo-ventilation (ASV) therapy is a recent non-invasive positive pressure ventilation therapy that was developed for patients with heart failure (HF) refractory to optimal medical therapy. However, it is likely that ASV therapy at relatively higher pressure setting worsens some of the patients' prognosis compared with optimal medical therapy. Therefore, identification of op...

Long-Term Prognosis of Adaptive Servo Ventilation Therapy for Patients with Heart Failure -Consideration in Severity of Sleep- Disordered Breathing

Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) has a close relation to heart failure (HF), the incidence of fatal cardiovascular events, and mortality.1 Adaptive servo-ventilation (ASV) therapy has been shown to be effective for central sleep apnea (CSA) and Cheyne–Stokes respiration (CSR).2,3 Recently, ASV therapy has also been used to treat patients with HF who also have CSA and CSR2,4,5 as well as patient...

Cardiovascular Outcomes With Minute Ventilation-Targeted Adaptive Servo-Ventilation Therapy in Heart Failure: The CAT-HF Trial.

BACKGROUND Sleep apnea is common in hospitalized heart failure (HF) patients and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. OBJECTIVES The CAT-HF (Cardiovascular Improvements With MV-ASV Therapy in Heart Failure) trial investigated whether minute ventilation (MV) adaptive servo-ventilation (ASV) improved cardiovascular outcomes in hospitalized HF patients with moderate-to-severe sl...
